BEA AquaLogic Interaction to become Oracle WebCenter Interaction
There’s been a bit of press lately about Oracle squashing the BEA AquaLogic product line, and some people have gone as far as assuming that this means that BEA’s AquaLogic Interaction (previously Plumtree Foundation and Plumtree Corporate Portal) is going away as well. The good news for AquaLogic Interaction customers is: Oracle is not going to discontinue AquaLogic Interaction.
AquaLogic Interaction is being re-branded to fit within Oracle’s new and upcoming WebCenter Suite. The new product name will be WebCenter Interaction, and the first release will be version 10gR3. I can’t say much about product release dates at this point due to Oracle’s policy about publishing release dates, but it is something you can expect to see in the relatively near future.
For those of you who are already familiar with the AquaLogic Interaction 6.5 release, WebCenter Interaction 10gR3 can be effectively thought of as AquaLogic Interaction 6.5 Maintenance Pack 2 (MP2). It is primarily a bugfix release, but we’re also planning to extend our platform support and re-brand the product from AquaLogic Interaction to WebCenter Interaction.
The upcoming WebCenter Interaction 10gR3 release will include several bug fixes and minor enhancements to features that were introduced in AquaLogic Interaction 6.5. Candidate bug fixes for the release include:
- Enhancements and bug fixes in Adaptive Layouts — the ability to embed search tags in any layout, even using search tags to drive navigation and replace saved query portlets with adaptive layouts
- Enhancements and bug fixes in Experience Rules — the ability to define experience rules based on the Browser HTTP header, allowing customers to more easily define rules based on device types
- Fixes to the Adaptive Layout selection in Experience Definitions — the ability to define a global page layout override to force all pages within ALI to use a single adaptive layout template
- Example Adaptive Layouts for RSS from the Knowledge Directory and Search, as well as an iPhone sample layout
- Additional known issues and updates for ALI 6.5
In case you haven’t noticed already, AquaLogic Interaction 6.5 MP1 was released to the Oracle eDelivery site, available for all customers to download. The 6.5 MP1 release was mainly to remove the BEA licensing code from AquaLogic Interaction, so customers who are already on 6.5 with a valid license can wait until WebCenter Interaction 10gR3 comes out to upgrade again.
