Twitter to get Facebook Connect, MySpace integration (eventually)

twitter_logo_s I missed the updates about this in the evening on Monday.  Shortly after announcing integration with Google’s Friend Connect service on Monday, the Twitter team was quick to follow up (in Tweets, no less) that they are planning to integrate with Facebook Connect.  Later updates in the company blog were more to the point:

Integrating with MySpace as well as Facebook Connect will require some development effort on our part. Now that we have 13 software engineers working at Twitter and our reliability continues to improve we’re getting closer to integrating with your favorite social networks.

The subtle, read-between-the-lines message being sent seems to be: it was easier to integrate Google Friend Connect first, and the other ones will take some time.  Whether that’s what Twitter intended to say with their blog post or not, I’m not sure.  Nonetheless, I find it all amusing.  I think I am easily amused, though.

Whether Twitter had intended it or not, the early integration with Google Friend Connect and subsequent announcement was a bump for Google’s identification service.  Was it because Twitter thought Google’s reach was further than Facebook, and pairing with them first was a good move purely from a PR perspective?  I doubt it, but who knows.
